Urgent Concern: Coleman, FL RDAP Participants Told “Don’t Drink the Water” — Anyone Else Hearing This?

I recently heard something deeply troubling from a friend currently participating in the RDAP (drug awareness) program at Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Florida. According to him, there was a public announcement made inside the program advising participants not to drink the water. That kind of message doesn’t come lightly. Considering the documented history of listeria, norovirus, and other contamination issues at Coleman in years past, this raises major red flags about the safety and sanitation of the facility’s water system. If the staff is aware of a hazard serious enough to tell inmates to avoid the water, then why isn’t there a formal investigation or public alert?

It’s not the first time this institution has had issues with environmental hazards — but what makes this worse is the silence around it. If there’s contamination again, it’s reasonable to ask what’s happening to the funds meant for water testing and filtration system maintenance. Are those funds being misappropriated? Where is the accountability? These men and women are human beings — many of whom are trying to rehabilitate through programs like RDAP — and they deserve basic human dignity and health safeguards. This kind of negligence, if true, is a serious public health concern.

Has anyone else heard similar warnings or experienced strange illnesses lately at Coleman or another BOP facility? If so, please speak up. And if you're in a position to help, please consider calling your U.S. Senator and asking them to investigate what’s happening at Coleman Low Federal Prison in Florida. It only takes a few voices to force transparency and change. We need to act now before something worse happens.
