I hope this message finds you in good spirits, despite the challenges we face. I’ve spent a significant amount of time reading through the posts on this platform, and I’ve noticed a common thread of difficulty and confusion when it comes to navigating the correctional system. It’s clear that many families are doing their best under trying circumstances.

I want to express my empathy for those who feel overwhelmed by the complexities of the system. It’s not always intuitive, and the lack of clear guidance can be disheartening. However, I believe that with a bit of guidance and support, we can all learn how to manage essential tasks such as funding our loved ones’ accounts and maintaining communication with them.

On the other hand, it’s disconcerting to see just how challenging it can be for families to locate their incarcerated loved ones and provide them with the comfort they deserve. The system’s shortcomings should not be a barrier to supporting and connecting with family members who are incarcerated.

As someone who has navigated these waters for 16 years across various facilities, I’ve accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience that I am eager to share. I understand the ins and outs of the system, and I’m here to answer your questions honestly and to the best of my ability.

Please feel free to reach out with any inquiries or if you need assistance. Together, we can bridge the gap of understanding and make a tangible difference in the lives of those we care about.

I agree with you. I decided to setup a website with the purpose of trying to help. I know people who are in the correction system at both state and federal level and it is difficult to find any information on things but especially for when they come out of the systems. They are pretty much dumped on the streets with a pittance. It also amazes me how things are different in different states as to what inmates can have sent in. It makes little sense.

The website id https://felonhelper.com

The site is a work in progress and if anyone has any input to give I will gladly add it.

I need help...my best friend in life is two days in Pekin, IL Camp. She is sentenced to 9 years. We are trying to establish communications. I've signed up with corrlinks..but a link has yet to be established. She has health issues that are already not being acknowledged. I'm 2 days into this system and i am a 21-year housing authority administrator, i know systems, but i need help here.

It can take a while before they get their tablet, but you should be able to see them in an inmate search. It may be that they are undergoing medical evaluations too.

Well, wow this has been difficult and special… so much to learn…. All I can honestly say is nobody has called me stupid for loving and trying to help the person in prison!!! Thank you all! That means a lot!

The is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting a loved one. Those who would call anyone stupid truly don't appreciate the sacrifice and commitment it needs to take care of an incarcerated loved one. More power to you!

While the 4th does not seem like a day to celebrate, I offer this, we contact and bless our loved ones…I have, am I am blessed, many others in different worlds mourn…a
Passing… we are special.. let us bless today, despite who we are missing, our days will be brighter.. mine have been since joining this community!

Holidays are always difficult. In many ways having a loved one incarcerated is worse than having someone pass away. You want the best for them and know that they are wishing they were free to enjoy the day with their family and loved ones. Stay strong.

Staying strong is very important, not only for them but us too, if we don’t they may not. Mine are now, made friends, doing ok.. wow, just like here, friends help!!! Blessed today!!!

And now I get messages that “free” people are complaining… you know, perspective means a lot…and I’m gaining a lot here.. I’m brighter but NOT understanding… this is a journey.. ok next steps tomorrow! Sleep well to all!

Had my first in person visit with my friend and it wasn’t scary but I do worry about her in that staff is so short and thus services are so limited it must make things difficult at times. I ask her can I send her things and she says no, if it was a Sate facility yes, but it’s Federal so no.. doesn’t make sense.. then again, it doesn’t have to. Thanks for all the support.

I think it depends on where they are in terms of going through the system. If they are still in the 'intake and evaluation' phase, then you are probably not able to send anything in other than books. If they are in their 'permanent' housing, then I would imagine that you could send them commissary and stuff. I have sent a book to someone in the Medical Evaluation Unit in LA without a problem.

I had a family member that the prison system did not give him any of his medications. None. Cold turkey
Have they just been sent to the prison? Sometimes it can take a week or so to be processed through all the medical, psychological and educational stuff. Did they declare that they were on the meds when they were interviewed? The chances are, depending on the drugs, that they won't be given a supply of them. Medication is generally given out at a given time and in a dedicated 'pill window'. It is usually monitored by correctional officers.

Good to know, wow, we think it is strange outside, I can’t imagine what it must be like there… all control, shame on the system! 🤓 thanks for the insight and care to reply!

I think that is a whole point of the system, to control people and dehumanize them. I know it is difficult to understand being on the outside, but you just have to have patience. The prison system is basically a money maker for them. Just look at the prices of things on commissary. I know from talking to people in the Texas system that it is little more than slavery. They work for free and get absolutely nothing for it, not even a 'good time' reduction on their sentence. I am trying to establish contacts in other states, but it isn't easy. Patience is the key.

They called in advance about Rx medications. Were told to bring them in. Then when brought in they sent it home with family member. Calls were made when realized the inmate was not getting any medications (some of which are life threatening if stopped suddenly & not tapered off). Inmate never got ANY of the medications during the incarceration. That should be a crime.

Then that is definitely wrong. I can understand them not letting you take them in as there is no way for them to know that the drugs are what you say they are. (and they don't want you muscling in on their own little drug importation scam). I assume you called the warden about the drugs? See if you can get a letter from your loved one's doctor and take that to the warden. Other than that my advice would be to call the local ombudsman (a google search should identify them).
