Reaching out to people with loved ones incarcerated.

I'm reaching out to everyone on here that has loved ones incarcerated that has had issues with any government institutions changing your loved ones prescription medications at will. This is not acceptable. Doctors have always urged people to not stop taking any medication cold turkey but they take their medicine away and change it at will treating our loved ones are lab rats, and I'm over it. I'm trying to get some people together to try to change this. Please reach out cause I'm only one person and I can't make enough noise on my own to make people listen, but I'm gonna sure as hell try.

BOP Formulary System Overview
The BOP maintains a National Formulary—a list of medications approved for use within its facilities. This formulary is designed to ensure high-quality, cost-effective drug therapy for the inmate population. The selection of medications is overseen by the Pharmacy, Therapeutics, and Formulary Committee, which evaluates drugs based on safety, efficacy, and cost considerations .

Non-Formulary Medication Requests
When a prescribed medication is not included in the BOP’s formulary, healthcare providers must submit a non-formulary request for approval. The policy stipulates that non-urgent, non-formulary medications should not be initiated until authorization is received. Initiating such medications without prior approval can be deemed unauthorized procurement .

Therapeutic Substitutions
In instances where a prescribed medication is not on the formulary, the BOP may provide a therapeutically equivalent alternative that is included in the formulary. This practice aligns with the BOP’s commitment to cost-effective care while ensuring that inmates receive necessary medical treatment .

If your inmate can get seen by a real doctor and get the prescription written, then staff at the facility can put in for the non-formulary drugs. It can take months. But first the person incarcerated has to write grievances work their way through the administrative remedy and or try all alternatives to their medicine and when they do not work for their issues that has the last resort, the BOP will approve non-formulary
